Singer/Songwriter Mikey Wax

Mikey Wax is a singer/songwriter from Long Island, NY. He is a talented pianist who began studying music at the age of 8 and quickly became passionate about using the piano as a form of expression through his own songwriting. After having composed more than 100 songs by his early teens, he recorded his first album of instrumental songs at the age of 12. The album received radio airplay on the New York radio station 101.9 FM. A few years later he began teaching himself to play guitar by applying what he knew on the piano. As a guitarist, he was influenced by singer/songwriters ranging from Bob Dylan and James Taylor, to Dave Matthews and John Mayer. As a result, he began writing songs on the guitar and singing along to them. The combination of his powerful piano playing, unique guitar chords and sweet voice helped him to create his own sound. This sound has been described by many as "deep," "evocative," "melodic," and "hopeful." His music combines certain qualities of modern day artists such as David Gray, Coldplay, Keane, and John Mayer, with classic artists such as the Beatles, Elton John, and Billy Joel.

After graduating high school, Mikey became a student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Surrounded by music, he continued to mature as an artist and further built his skills as a songwriter, lyricist, singer and performer. While attending, Mikey and his band were selected by the student body to perform in the famous Rites of Spring festival held by Vanderbilt at the end of every year. Past performers include Dave Matthews Band, Jason Mraz, and Keller Williams.

After graduating from Vanderbilt in May 2006, Mikey entered the studio to record his first full-length album, "Change Again," consisting of songs he wrote between leaving for college and the months after coming back home. It is no surprise then that many of the consistent themes on his first album deal with uncertainty, confusion, and change, as well as universal themes such as love and loss. It is the recipe for a sophisticated and emotional debut album. According to Mikey, "what matters to me as an artist is to write songs with intriguing lyrics and heartfelt melodies, so the song connects and takes you on an emotional ride." The final product is a collection of songs that are timeless, hopeful, and bitter sweet. The album was just released on November 1st, 2008.

2008 has been a great year so far for the up-coming singer/songwriter. This past May, Mikey's song "In Case I go Again" was selected as the winner of The Unsigned Artist radio contest held by WRMF / 97.9 FM, a top 40 radio station in South Florida. In addition, two of the songs from his recent debut album were featured in the independent film "Goodnight Elizabeth," which was released in June of 2008. This past October, Mikey had the chance to perform in the 2008 CMJ Marathon in New York City. The CMJ Marathon features some of the best up-coming artists from around the world, and is a very respected festival in the music industry. To be selected for it was a great accomplishment and certainly a rewarding experience. In addition, this past October Mikey signed his first non-exclusive licensing deal with Synchup Music. Synchup is working with Mikey to secure placements of his songs in up-coming films and TV shows.

Most recently, the release of Mikey's debut album in early November ranked at # 68 on the iTunes top 100 pop albums chart in the U.S in it's first week. This is a very strong debut for a completely independent artist with no label or major management behind him. The album has been continuing to spread through word-of-mouth, live shows, and social networking sites such as facebook and myspace. On November 16th, Mikey made his debut television performance playing live on the CBS news morning show in Florida. The broadcast reached over 50,000 viewers, and the station was extremely generous in promoting Mikey's album on the air for the entire broadcast. In addition, Mikey's song "In Case I Go Again" was recently selected to Almighty Music's Emerging Artist Jukebox. The Jukebox features some of the biggest selling artists in the industry right now, as well as the strongest new music from a few unsigned artists.

2008 looks to be a great year for the upcoming singer and songwriter. With the release of his debut album and consistent live shows, Mikey Wax is developing loyal fans all over the world.
